2011 Update from Henry and Neri

Dear Family & Friends,

We always thank God for all of you for your continued prayer and obedience to go, and for giving to support God’s work through Home of Grace Ministry in Cambodia.  God has abundantly blessed us in so many ways, as many have come to be a part f showing the world God’s love through Jesus Christ.

By faith, 39 missionaries from different states answered God’s call to be a part of this ministry.  They taught children in VBS, fed the hungry, met the needs of the poor & prayed for the sick and hurting.  They witnessed and evangelized in the villages and baptized, trained pastors and leaders to go out to share the love of Jesus Christ, and make a tremendous impact in the hearts of the people in Cambodia.

By the love of God, three different times this year VBS was offered for the children.  A total of over 1800 children were reached at those times.  Many children shared with us that they could not sleep because they were so excited about VBS.  The gates opened at 8:00 a.m., but many were there as early as 6:30 a.m.  They began to understand that Jesus loves and cares for them.  After the class, children began to raise their hands to accept Jesus Christ in to their hearts & lives.  At the end of these classes, children played games & were fed.  They were also sent home with school supplies.  The children were so grateful for food and the gifts to take home.  We are very thankful to those who provided the books & materials, teaching these precious children and the gifts to take home and the food to feed them.

Home of Grace was able to help a widow with four children, and two of the children stayed at a different orphanage two years ago.  The widow was able to stay home with her 14 year old daughter and 3 year old son.  During the last flood, she lost her job and they had no money & no house.  She had no choice and nowhere to turn, so she borrowed the money to help her family survive.  In return to pay off the debt, she had to send her 14 year old daughter to live and work with a family they did not know.

The daughter had to work from 5 a.m.  in the morning until 10 p.m.  at night.  The living conditions were exceptionally brutal.  She lived in a home with many men.  She feared for her safety and she cried out for help.  The widow needed help to get her daughter back home.  She prayed and trusted in God to bring her daughter back safely.  The widow’s brother worked at Home of Grace, and she called him to help with her food.  So we heard this story, and God put it on our hearts to help the widow and her daughter.  By faith, we provided them funds to bring her daughter back home.  The first attempt to bring her back was not successful.  We prayed and asked God to work in the hearts of those people, and open their hearts to release her.  The second time they asked for her to be sent home, they agreed and let her go home.  Her family has no income, and no house to live in.  So by faith we offered her mother a job helping in the kitchen.  Please remember this family and pray for them.

The Home of Grace Orphanage not only helps the orphans, we also reach out to the poor children and the community as a whole.  We also support the poor children in the community school.  They ask for help; we cannot ignore when we went to the school and saw they came to school without school supplies or uniforms.  The Home of Grace supported the poor children with school supplies.  We took 386 packages of school supplies (including books, pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, little bags of candy, and toothbrushes) to these children.

The teams were not only concerned for the children, but they also walked hut to hut and village to village to share God’s love with the families.  Some of them have hardships and don’t know if there will be food for the next meal for them and their children.  We are thankful that God allowed us to know these needs.  We invited them to come to the Home of Grace to share with them God’s love and care for them.  Over 800 families came between three different occasions.  We thank you for your faithful and generous giving that provided 2-3 weeks of meals for these families during their hardship[.  Not only was physical food provided, but also spiritual food for each soul.  Through this, the people realize the love of God provides for their needs.

We are very thankful for medical teams that came to join Home of Grace; for having the compassion to reach out to the sick.  So many people have never been able to see a doctor and so many had needs.  Some needed emergency care, so the team provided funding at a later date.  This is for people needing to be in the hospital.  One medical team saw almost 500 families and was able to give out over 400 pairs of glasses.  What a blessing to see the joy in a person’s face in response to glasses that enabled them to see.  The thankful heart was very evident in the sick who received medical assistance and advice to take home.  We are so thankful for the teams who worked diligently, sometimes through their lunch hour, and made that sacrifice because so many hurting people were still waiting to be seen.

This year we have had an opportunity to disciple and train pastors and leaders in different churches and villages.  A total of 164 attended these all day training sessions.  Pray with us that the people who attended these sessions will go back and reach those in their communities and villages.  Members of each team walked to each of the villages to share God’s love & build relationships with the people and witness to them about Jesus Christ.  Walking from village to village in the heat is not an easy task, but when we saw the love of God working through each team member, it was such a joy.  We want to give God all the glory for putting His strength in each member as they walked for Him.  “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!” Romans 10:15b

Work is in progress on the Faith Center that will be used as a place to feed the hungry; for medical teams to provide services to the sick; as a training center for pastors, leaders, and people in the community; as a distribution place for food & materials, etc.; and as living quarters for a small team to stay for short periods of time.

Home of Grace Orphanage currently has 52 children.  Some children can speak and write a little English.  They are so thankful for the love of Jesus Christ and that you give them the opportunity to be in the Home of Grace, giving them a nice place to live with more food that they could have ever dreamed.  They now have opportunities to go to school.  Some express that they are already in Heaven! Thank you so much for your continued support and for sponsoring them and making a difference in the lives of these precious children in Home of Grace.

Currently there are 5 different churches.  The newest church was started this year.  Every day of the week, we have two teams conduct Bible studies in the 12 villages.  We are able to minister to new believers in the village.  Some Bible studies are held under trees, in homes, or in open areas with shelter.  There is so much work and prayer to be done for so many needs.

Please continue to pray for us and consider going to help meet those needs.  Pray and ask God what you can do to be a part of this ministry.  It is evident that God is at work in a powerful way, in the hearts of the people in Cambodia through Home of Grace.  Their lives have been changed forever.  We would be so thankful and grateful for any gift or donation you can offer to be a part of this ministry.

Thank you again for your faithfulness in praying, going, and giving to support the Home of Grace Ministry in Cambodia.
